Tons of reasons for McMullan to star

Saturday, 10th Dec 2016

Paul McMullan is confident that Dunfermline can make it hard for Morton to extend their seven league match unbeaten run.

He told the media:-

"Morton are on good form but we have played well in the last three games. The boys are going into it with a bit of a spring in their step. We are looking forward to it. It is going to be a good game and one that hopefully we can win."

Although Morton sit in a play off place and are undefeated at home this league season the have lost away games to Hibs, Ayr United and Dundee United. Paul continued:-

"It is a difficult league, everybody in the league has their qualities and everybody on their day can win games. It is about turning up on the Saturday and making sure that you are one hundred per cent at it and make sure you give yourself the best chance to win the game."

Earlier this year Paul played eleven games for Morton after being loaned out by Celtic. Now on a season long loan to Dunfermline Paul comes up against a number of players who were his team mates just seven months back.

Derek Gaston. Lee Kilday, Tom O`Ware, Ricki Lamie, Mark Russell, Ross Forbes, Jai Quitongo and Andy McNeil were all part of the Morton team that Paul played in. He enjoyed playing in the side.

"Jim Duffy has got them operating well, they all know their jobs and they will be difficult to play against but with the players that we have here I think we can beat them.

"There are six or seven still there that I played with there. You know their strengths and know their weaknesses but they probably know my strengths and all my weaknesses. It can work for or against you but I will look forward to seeing familiar faces."

After the manager pointed out the frequency of Morton`s goals from set pieces it was little wonder that Paul used his knowledge to single out players to watch on Saturday:-

"Ross Forbes was really good when I was there. He is comfortable on the ball and he keeps them ticking. For us to be effective we are going to have to get close to him and make it difficult for them.

"Tom O `Ware is aggressive in the air. He scored a couple while I was there. He does attack the ball well and so he is another one that we will have flagged up and we will have somebody assigned to pick him up."

Paul is out of contract at Celtic at the end of this season and likely to find out in January if he will be returning there. Appearances at Dunfermline total 16 so far but only five of these starts and he is delighted to have been on from the start in the last two games, he added:-

"We have a competitive squad here and if you are not at it, you move to the back of the pecking order and have to wait your turn again. That has happened to a lot of the boys this year. When you get the chance you just have to take it. That is what I am trying to do at the moment."
