Ayr United saviour is no local hero

Former Pars keeper Greg Fleming admitted that he was `absolutely brutal` when it comes to taking penalties in training somewhat a contrast to the Pars penalty taking in training.

He talked about his part in securing a point for his team on Saturday:-

"You are disappointed to see Dunfermline going down to ten men but give them credit they came back into it with a couple of good chances. Sean Murdoch had a couple of good saves as well so after two penalties you just have to take that."

Born and raised in Dunfermline, Greg attended Dunfermline High School and he made 26 appearances for Dunfermline while on loan from Oldham Athletic in season 2009-10.

Greg has a very good record in facing penalties and enhanced that record by keeping out Kallum Higginbotham out twice from the spot in the final ten minutes of Saturday`s thriller.

"I saw him take one against Hibs and obviously saw which way he went. I just took a guess and the first one I went that way and saved it.

"When I saw him step up to take the second one I gambled that he wasn`t going to go the same way and just try and hit it hard.

"Thankfully I managed to get my hand to it but to be fair when I first got my hand to it I was lying down and I thought the ball was going to spin inside the post."

Fortunately for Greg Fleming he nows lives in Annan and there are few Pars fans to avoid in that part of the country.
