Managers Post St Mirren

Pars manager Allan Johnston was delighted with his team`s first away win of the league campaign.

"It has been a long time coming, we have come so close so many times but I think the players showed a lot of character because St Mirren put us under a lot of pressure especially in the second half.

"We had to defend long throws, corners and obviously Sutton is an aerial threat as well. So I am delighted for the players."

The manager agreed that it was a close game where the spoils could have gone either way:-

"We had probably the most clear cut chances, I cannot remember too many chances they had. At the end of the day they put us under pressure in the second and the players deserve a lot of credit for the way they handled that especially after the recent run of results.

"You can see in the big games, the big players step up and we are delighted to get a result."

Allan Johnston did not want to single out any player in what he thought was a good team effort:-

"Everybody played their part, it was a real team effort especially towards the end.

"It was nice to actually dig one out for a change. Usually we play good and come away with nothing. It was nice to hang on at the end there and get the three points. You could see how much it meant to the players. I`m sure now that it will give them a lot of confidence and hopefully we can build on that."

Despite it being an important three points against a team that would like to be nipping Dunfermline`s heels in the table the manager stressed that this was just one game in a long season:-

"We have a long way to go, we need to put a string of results together and there is no reason why we can`t do that."

Asked what the issue was between the dugouts in the second half, AJ replied:-

"I do not know, I was too busy watching the game to be fair. I think it was over a bounced ball. We nearly scored but Rhys McCabe was down with a head knock and the referee never stopped it, then St Mirren nearly scored as well. Obviously something happened there, I don`t know, it was nothing to worry about."
