Raith fans gee up Joe

Monday, 7th Nov 2016

Joe Cardle - "I was only at Raith for a year but they are rivals so I expected nothing less. It would have been nice to get one over on them.

As a player who has been on both sides Joe Cardle enjoyed the Derby game but was quick to say that he would have enjoyed it more if he had got three points.

"I am frustrated that we came off the pitch without a win because I felt that we controlled the game from start to finish. We had so many chances and played some good football.

"There were two or three good chances, I thought that i could have done better with my chance in the second half. Coming away with just one point after such a good performance is upsetting."

Joe `s return after after missing out for two games heralded a more effective approach, he added:-

"We have quality wide men, Kallum Higginbotham was brilliant again. Last season we got the balls out wide, one on ones and we know that we can frustrate teams like that. We set out to be up on second balls, getting in their face and I think we did that from start to finish.

"The boys worked hard to get the ball back. They just seemed to be giving the ball away and playing lofted balls every time they got it. I can`t say how frustrated we are to come away with just one point but you have to look at the positives. It wasn`t a defeat and we just have to look to Tuesday now."

Joe revealed that the team had been working all week on defending so in some respects only the second shut out of the league campaign was a success in itself.

"It has been mistakes that have killed us as of recent games and if we can clamp down on that we have enough fire power up top to get us goals and create chances. It is a good start, obviously we wanted the three points today but we have to look to Tuesday now and kick on from there."

As a former Raith Rovers player, Joe got the usual `roasting` from the visiting support and he was not surprised:-

"It is part and parcel of it isn`t it? It is what you expect. I was only at Raith for a year but they are rivals so I expected nothing less. It would have been nice to get one over on them. We have another couple of games against them before the end of the season and I am sure we can do it in them.

"I am a Dunfermline player and I wanted to win the game for them today. Any Derby game is particularly special so when you are getting booed it just gees you on all the more to get one over them.

"It is good to have these games back at East End Park these are the games that we wanted back and I am sure that there will be plenty more to come."
