Lee delighted to keep it clean
Friday, 7th Oct 2016Road from Hampden fuels no fear for opponents.
"After a good win and a draw we are looking to keep a run going" claimed Lee Ashcroft ahead of the Irn-Bru Cup tie against Queens Park on Saturday.
"These games are never easy, these boys come here with no fear. A lot of times they are not expected to win and I think that helps teams like that.
"We know that it will be a hard game, as are all the games we play but it is one that we are looking forward to because if we win it gets us into the quarter final.
"It is a big game for us, we will go about it the right way, pick up the win and hope to go into the last eight."
Like most of his team mates Lee Ashcroft was a little disappointed that the cup draw handed them a home tie since a reversal would have meant playing at Hampden Park but the 23 year old who joined from Kilmarnock for this season praised the East End Park playing surface:-
"The pitch is always great here, it s a great place to play and I am happy with the home tie."
With teams from Northern Ireland and Wales entering the Irn-Bru Cup at this stage an away venue could have been quite a distance away, Lee said that he was unaware of that until he saw the draw made for this round.
"It is good to have different fixtures. If we can win on Saturday we might get a game against one of those teams."
The chances of that will be greatly enhanced if the Pars defence can repeat last Saturday`s first shut out of the league season.
A clean sheet is what I want more than anything. It was good get off the mark in that in the league, I think it was overdue. A few wee things hadn`t gone our way in the games before that. The whole team defended well, we were just unfortunate not to get the win because we had a few good chances to go and steal it."
After being partnering in central defence with Ben Richards-Everton and Callum Fordyce, the shut out came for Lee with Lewis Martin playing alongside him, he commented:-
"You train with the boys everyday so you know what the boys strengths and weaknesses are. You know them inside out but I just get on with my game and whoever is playing beside me does the same. I thought we were brilliant at the weekend."
Confidence will grow from clean sheets and following the cup game Lee has his eye on two further big games in the league away to Falkirk and at home to Dundee United.
"We have not been outplayed in any game that we have played this season, just things that have not gone our way. Hopefully that is the turning point now and things will start going for us and we can climb up the table."
