Cappielow strike pointless for Clark

Monday, 19th Sep 2016

Nicky Clark lamented his first Pars goal counted for nothing

"They made it hard for us at times. We never played to the potential that we know we have in the dressing room so it is a hard one to take.

"It is good to score but it doesn`t really go for much when you get beat. As a striker you want to score goals and I was glad to get off the mark today but the most important thing in football is three points.

"I reacted to Callum Fordyce`s shot towards the goals, luckily enough it fell to me and I put it in the net.

"It was a frantic start but I thought that we were probably the better team out of the two. We gave away what we thought was a sloppy goal. I have not seen it again but we will play it back on Monday morning.

"It made it harder for ourselves going a goal behind but we got back in it with our goal. The second half we never really got going at all to be honest. We lost another goal and that killed us."

Given Allan Johnston`s substitutions Nicky found himself surrounded by players all hoping to save the game - Joe Cardle, Kallum Higginbotham and Farid El Alagui. Nicky acknowledged that there is strength in depth at Dunfermline that should provide goals:-

"It is a great squad in that dressing room, I said that when I signed. But it is not just good on paper you need to do it on the park on a Saturday and at this moment in time we are not doing that. It is up to us to turn the performance around.

"We were very disappointed, we wanted to go down to Greenock, win and take the three points. We never done that and it is frustrating. We need to get a good week starting on Monday and make sure that we get three points next week.

"I don`t think we played well in the second half. I don`t think their goalie had a save to make although I don`t think Hutts had much to do either.

"At the end of the day, they got a ball in the box, we didn`t defend it and they scored. That is the difference between the two teams on the day and it was really disappointing for us."
