Allan Johnston was pleased to get a good result at Glebe Park on Saturday, he told the media:-
"Brechin have been flying since the start of the season so we knew that we were going to be in for a difficult game. I thought that for the majority of the game that we controlled it for long spells.
"At 2-0 it looked like we were going to go on and score five, six or even more given the way that we were playing. Then they scored a wonder goal from a free kick. We maybe lost it a bit for five minutes and then after that we totally controlled it again."
Commenting on an observation that he was assembling a squad with great flexibility, Allan replied:-
"At the start of the season we had a few injuries and have brought in boys who have maybe missed pre season. We have some coming back from long term injuries and it took us a wee while to get back fitness wise and in terms of numbers.
"You see the strength in depth that we have when you see boys like Joe Cardle and Kallum Higginbotham coming on. It just shows you that we have good quality and just shows that everyone has to play well to keep their place in the team."
Having signed on Wednesday, Nicky Clark made his Dunfermline debut against Brechin. He played 80 minutes and his manager was pleased with the new signing`s performance:-
"He was tiring, you can see that he has not played many 90 minutes over the last few months. You can see from his movement that he is a goalscorer and I am sure that he will do well for us."
Could Nicky Clark and Gavin Reilly form a successful partnership up front for Allan Johnston`s team?
"They are two good players, players who I have worked with as well and if we give them service they will definitely score goals for us."
Now all that is required is to take this cup form into the league but AJ felt that the result would build the confidence in his players:-
"It was really encouraging to score five goals and we could easily have scored few more because we had that creative edge today."
Asked about Farid El Alagui, the gaffer said that they were in talks with the player:-
"He is a player that we like, he would "bring us something different but we will just have to wait and see."
