Goal no consolation for Reilly
Monday, 15th Aug 2016Goalscorer Gavin Reilly frustrated with nothing to show after being on top after his equaliser.
"It was a disappointing result, I thought in the first half we were in and out of the game but second half we were well into the game and had wee chances. It is especially disappointing the outcome of the goal that was a mistake from myself. We just need to pick ourselves up and go again next week."
The home side got on the back of their team when Gavin snatched an equaliser for Dunfermline in just the thirteenth minute of the second half. He commented:-
"The crowd got on their back. It is a big crowd and a big club and we used that to our advantage. Hopefully at the point once you score, you go and score again hoping for the turn around. It was a good game for the neutral but we were disappointed to lose a goal that way.
"To not come out with anything especially when we had been on top after we scored the equaliser."
The manager described his team as having a go at Hibs and the on loan Jambo co-partner with Michael Moffat in the striking role. He continued:-
"At the end of the day it is eleven men versus eleven men, you just have to go out and match up. I thought we did that well for most part of the game. We are a good attacking side and are God at defending as well. We have got to utilise all the strengths that we have got.
"I think we will go 4-4-2 for most of the games that we play this season. We have the personnel to do that and we showed in good parts of the game today that we are a good side."
The 23 year felt that Dunfermline demonstrated their quality:-
"We didn`t really create any clear cut chances but on another day, like against Dumbarton last week, we can show that we can create a lot of chances and cut teams open. It is still early days, we are always going to get stronger and stronger. We have a good base and hopefully we can just build on that."
Gavin`s first ever Dunfermline goal was also his first against Hibernian which must have pleased the maroon side of the capital. He was delighted to get off the mark:-
"Against Hibs as well, they are favourites for the league it is always good to get a goal. Personally I thought I did well but still a bit disappointed not getting the three points. You just have to take the positives out of what there is and go on a build on that."
Dismissing any smarting over scoring against the city rivals, the striker thought his tracker was going to take him out as he put away the 58th minute goal.
"I got the touch in front of him, just looked up and put it in with my left foot. I am delighted to get off the mark and hopefully I can get more and also create more chances for other folk as well.
"I am concentrating on Dunfermline this season. It is a big season for myself and a big season for everyone here at the club having just been promoted. That is just two games in, there is still a long way to go and it is a really exciting league this season."
The match in the second tier of Scottish football attracted the largest crowd of the day by quite a distance and they were not let down by the entertainment. Gavin felt that the 1235 Dunfermline fans behind the goal they were attacking in the second half, significantly made their presence felt.
"We had most of the pressure in the second half and we appreciate the fans coming today. It was a big support and hopefully we can bring that to most of the games this season."
