Manager post Dumbarton
Saturday, 6th Aug 201606/08/16: AJ - "We could quite easily have scored six or seven today.
Manager Allan Johnston thought that losing two late goals took the shine off the win over Dumbarton:-
"It was a brilliant display. Their keeper kept them in the game and we could probably have scored six or seven. We maybe got a wee bit sloppy towards the end. It was disappointing to lose two penalties but there were a lot of positive performances and good play."
When Dumbarton scored in 18th minute it was just four minutes after Michael Moffat had missed a penalty. Few would argue that this was against the run of play but it was just five minutes before Joe Cardle ended the visitors advantage:-
"We had a couple of chances before they scored when we just didn`t react to the second ball from the free kick. The boys showed a lot of character in the way they came back. They kept on passing it, creating chances and it was great to get the goals.
"We could quite easily have scored six or seven today. They did not look a threat going forward so for them to score three goals is incredible - two penalties and a free kick.
"We didn`t deserve that at the end but we have to learn that these wee things make a difference."
As far as the result was concerned it was Joe Cardle who made the difference and his manager described his player as being "on fire".
"He is a top player. It is not just his good play but his work ethic as well. You could see that the whole team worked incredibly hard today. It was good that it paid dividends and we got the result we were looking for."
Will next week`s match away to Hibs be a gauge of how well Dunfermline can compete in the Championship?
"It is just another three points. Hibs are favourites to win the league, they have a lot of top players, it is a hard place to go but after that performance we are really looking forward to it. With the players we have we can cause them problems as well."
Kallum Higginbotham claimed the victim`s rights where the man fouled gets to take the penalty but Michael Moffat won the debate with Kallum for the right to take the 14th minute spot kick. Moff had missed his last two in the match against Forfar last season and his misfortune continued as yet again a post denied him. The manager gave his take:-
"At the end of the day it is whoever is confident. Moff was confident and it is not like him to miss a penalty. He probably won`t get the chance next time!"
