Dunfermline Athletic

Chairman says plenty to look forward to

Thursday, 4th Aug 2016

"We have not won too many league championships and it doesn`t matter what level it is, it is a special moment.

Chairman Ross McArthur admitted that taking delivery of the league flag for unfurling on Saturday, has really driven home the reality of promotion.

"It is going to be a proud moment standing there unfurling the flag on behalf of everybody. It is a deserved moment for all the staff, the playing staff, the administration staff and the supporters. It is a proud day for everybody.

"We have not won too many league championships and it doesn`t matter what level it is, it is a special moment. You have got to cherish it and the first game of the season is always really exciting anyway. To unfurl the flag makes it extra special."

Behind the scenes during the closed season money has been spent improving the stadium because it has been neglected over the years. Ross continued:-

"We have invested in various areas. We have taken on a new General Manager again to improve the infrastructure of the club. The club is going in the right direction but I keep saying to the supporters that the club is a long way from where it should be.

"Everybody needs to continue to help the club be it attending games, buying season tickets, continuing their Centenary Club Lifeline membership because that makes a big difference to the club and allows us to compete above other teams of our size. It is because of the extra income that comes in."

The Chairman confirmed that Allan Johnston still has money within his budget to bring in one or two players.

"It depends on how he wants to do it. The biggest issue he is finding is signing players of the right quality. He is biding his time, I know two or three names that he is looking at and if he can bring them in they would be great. There is a lot still to happen."

Ross called upon everyone to celebrate on Saturday:-

"You have to enjoy the moment, I might never see another league championship winning occasion so you have to enjoy it."

Looking to the league season that kicks off on Saturday, Ross added:-

"This season we have got to be realistic. Look at the calibre of teams that are in the Championship and it is almost a mini Premiership. You have massive clubs like Hibs and Dundee United. I am sure over the course of the season we can compete with them but whether we can better them is a totally different thing. As a board we just want to compete in the league. If we can get into contention for a play off position that would be a fantastic first season back in the Championship.

"Dumbarton, Queen of the South, St Mirren, Raith Rovers, Falkirk - there are so many good teams who know how to play in the Championship. It is a big club, I believe a Premiership club but it will take us time to get back to the Premiership."

Now back in the same league there will be four Derby games against Raith Rovers, so Ross finished "there is a lot to look forward too."
