Elite to first team in 9 weeks
Friday, 29th Jul 2016Callum Smith couldn`t believe getting his first team debut on Tuesday night against Inverness Caley Thistle.
He was taken aback when Allan Johnston turned to him and told him to go and get warmed up. He then replaced Michael Moffat in 78th minute of the Betfred Cup match at East End Park:-
"It was brilliant. When I was waiting to go on I was a bit nervous but when I got on I was fine. It was more just excitement.
"I just tried to blank out the fans, it was the first time playing in front of quite a lot of people. I played how I normally play and I am really happy about it."
Callum attended Cowdenbeath Primary and Beath High Schools. Started at Cowdenbeath, joined Dunfermline at under 15 level before the amalgamation of the Fife clubs into Fife Elite. He only signed a contract in May 2016 and the 16 year old is delighted with the speed of his progress:-
"My debut has come a lot quicker that I expected but I have been impressing and doing well. Hopefully I can keep it up.
"I have not really played that many games and it has been good to get 90 minutes in the under twenties."
