Hutts dons number 43

Friday, 15th Jul 2016

"My aim is to keep the jersey and not give him it back.

David Hutton finished his first season at Dunfermline with a 50 per cent shut out record. Quite acceptable but unfortunately from just 2 games. With Sean Murdoch currently out with a wrist injury David has grabbed the chance to make a big claim on the number one shirt for the coming season.

The 31 year old who has extensive previous second flight experience with Clyde, Queen of the South, Hamilton Accies and Ayr United spoke exclusively to this website saying:-

"My aim is to keep the jersey and not give him it back. Sean got the opportunity last season and it was hard because we won every week. The team was doing well and I couldn`t get into it. Now I have my chance, I want to take it."

David was signed before Sean Murdoch and he didn`t concede a goal in the pre season matches he played. He accepts that it is just one of those things in football, he has bided his time and feels through circumstances that has now come.

"It is for me to go and take it, go and show what I am capable of in the games. I need to cement my place in the team, that is what I want to do. I am not here to sit on a bench and be a number two all of my life."

David felt that he came back to pre season fitter and he is delighted that Dave Westwood has been confirmed as goalkeeping coach for the season ahead, he continued:-

"It is a specialised position and if you have the jersey that is it - there is nothing you can do. Whoever has got it has to work hard to keep it." He joked "Sean is not getting it back, it is mine. I am not willing to give it up, if I have got it I want to keep it. Sean is obviously wanting to play as well, I don`t think he wants to sit on the bench. Last season he played just about every game but that is goalkeeping for you."

He knows that you just have to do your best even when the problem has been created further up the pitch. The only puzzle is the name and number on his shirt - Sinclair-Hutton, 43.

"That is my wife`s name, she wanted to keep her name as well as my name. She asked if I would do it so I did it for her dad as well. Her dad has been a big part of my life. 43 was my squad number when I started at Aberdeen."

David made the bench at Aberdeen (2002-2004) wearing that number. It was his first ever squad number and feels it will be lucky for him this season. He is looking forward to the visit of Arbroath and intends to go into the match in a positive frame of mind. He observed:-

"Dick Campbell will have them well organised and will make it difficult for us. We will be trying to win the game. The boys have done really well in pre season games and we need to take that momentum into that game.

"The new format is a bit weird but I don`t mind it because you have game after game. I prefer games coming thick and fast, you do not need to train as much and go and play. We just need to go and do the job on the field."
