05/07/16: AJ - "It is difficult circumstances when you have boys coming together that haven`t played together.

Tuesday night`s match at the Broadwood Stadium provided a useful opportunity for manager Allan Johnston to watch a few trialists in action and give some of his squad who had maybe not played as much as others a good run out. He told this website:-

"It was a real mixture tonight, not a classic game by any means especially on the first half. We had to defend long throws, corners and long kick outs as well. It was a learning curve for some of the younger ones as well playing against teams like that are physical and get the ball forward quickly.

"I thought in the second half that they coped with it a lot better. They passed the ball a lot better but we should still be creating a lot more chances. We still created a few and it was good to win the game."

The manager felt that his side played better in the second half but there were still not enough chances created for his liking. Playing five trialists caused its own problems but it could be that the Pars gaffer has been able to make his mind up on some of them.

"It is difficult circumstances when you have boys coming together that haven`t played together. There were a few of them did okay but you have to judge them, are they better than the players that we have got - that is the big decision."

Much as everyone was focussing on the trialists it was 18 year old keeper Cammy Gill who impressed greatly against Clyde. The manager continued:-

"He is a good young goalie. He is still improving and has a long way to go but you can see that he has got the talent there. It is just getting the confidence and the consistency every game but you can see that he is developing into a really good goalie."

Paul McMullan newly arrived on a season long loan from Celtic made his Dunfermline debut at Broadwood and AJ was enthused by what he saw of him:-

"You can see that he has ability and pace as well. It is his first 45 minutes since Celtic have not played any games yet. He wasn`t firing on all cylinders but you can see that he has got talent."

Next up is an Under 20s match away to Civil Service Strollers at the Christie Gillies Ground in Edinburgh on Friday night. The manager is looking forward to a milestone at that game:-

"We are hoping Callum (Fordyce) will be able to play some part of the game as part of his comeback. That is a big step forward for him. Hopefully of a right few games."
