Nat keen to keep momentum going
Wednesday, 22nd Jun 2016Nat Wedderburn was delighted to be Allan Johnston`s first signing for the club`s Championship return.
The new signing told the website:-
"The main reason was the managers interest in me, it is nice when there is a manager who wants you to come and play for him.
"I wasn`t really playing at Inverness, so it is better to be somewhere where you are playing and you are happy. Hopefully playing more regularly I will be happy here."
Nat`s previous matches against Dunfermline are ones that are firmly lodged in the memory. His first game in Scottish football when he arrived at Cowdenbeath was at Central Park and he scored on his debut in the Pars 3-1 Challenge Cup victory.
Then there were the play off matches at the end of season 2014-2015. He recalled:- "We drew 1-1 at Central Park and here we won 3-0 to stay up.
"I think the standard of football in Scotland is good. Obviously I have played in both the top divisions now and the quality is good."
Nat came in to pre season a week after his new team mates and is keen to catch up. He can play in either centre half or midfield and already the manager has outlined the role he would like his new man to play:-
"He sees me playing centre midfield. It has been tough because I am a week behind everyone and all the lads have come back really fit. There has been a lot of ball work but hard work at the same time.
"Training is quite high tempo, especially when you have been off for a week. It is enjoyable though."
Nat`s ambition is clear - help the team as high up the table as possible and make as many games as he can. The first two days training at Dunfermline have been enjoyable and he really has not too much to catch up on considering his Premiership season did not finish until after the League One champions.
The 24 year old who came through the youth system at Stoke City feels that he has settled in really well. He added:-
"I don`t know any of the boys personally but I have played against a few of the boys before. two seasons ago Callum Fordyce and Jason Talbot at Livingston, Gavin Reilly at Queen of the South."
By everyone`s reckoning the Scottish Championship is going to be a very competitive in the coming season as the Pars will come up against Dundee United, Hibs, Falkirk and Raith Rovers. Nat gave his thoughts on that meaty fixture card:-
"After winning the league last season the whole place has momentum going into the new season. I am sure that the aim is to be in the mix for the play offs. I can see that there is quality in the players here."
