Lee is loving it
Saturday, 18th Jun 2016"I think I have definitely made the right choice in coming here because I am loving it so far."
Pars new boy Lee Ashcroft is sure that he has made the right decision in leaving Kilmarnock for Dunfermline. He told this website
"It has been brilliant, the first week has been hard but the boys have been great with me. I am just looking forward to the games starting to be honest."
This is not the first pre season that Lee has experienced under Allan Johnston since he was also his manager at Kilmarnock for a time. The central defender claimed that he had a good idea of what to expect in pre season training:-
"It has worked out as I expected, hard but enjoyable. I only had three clear weeks off so I was still relatively fit. That has helped me."
In contrast to Lee, the players who were at Dunfermline last season had a six week break but he was impressed how everyone was up to scratch:-
"Usually you get a couple of boys pulling out early in the first few days of pre season when they find it hard. Everybody seems to have kept themselves in good shape, it is good to see that.
"You can do as much training as you want but it is the match fitness that you need and that is where you get the best fitness. Next week we get our first friendly against Partick so I am looking forward to getting some game time again."
Lee was not involved as much as he would have liked at Kilmarnock especially when their new manager Lee Clark arrived. Things were not going great for Killie but Lee was asked to play in the play off games against Falkirk, he added:-
"I thought I did pretty well on them and we did well to stay up. It was good then but I knew I was not going to be offered a new contract. I was just glad to be able to help the club stay in the league because I met some great people there and I still have some great friends there. It is good for them but I still had a rough idea that I was leaving anyway.
"When Allan Johnston was in contact with me I got a good feeling about it. I was happy to get a deal done pretty sharp and happy to come. The first week I have really enjoyed and hopefully that continues through the season."
Having fought to stave off the Rugby Park club's relegation to the Championship, the opportunity to play in a side managed by Allan Johnston was a major attraction in encouraging the 22 year old to make the drop anyway. He said:-
"It swayed me to sign here. It is good knowing what things are going to be like. The first few days have been just what I expected. I think I have definitely made the right choice in coming here because I am loving it so far. Hopefully I can get as much game time and as many wins in this league as we can next season and push for a play off place."
A lot of players would have body swerved dropping down a league but the competition in the Championship in the coming season will create some great games. Matches against Hibs and Dundee United will be just as big as the ones against Raith Rovers and Falkirk, Lee continued:-
"There are two local derbies and I am sure that there will be great crowds both home and away. There will be some great atmospheres to play in front of and some big games for us to look forward to."
