20s not plenty yet
Tuesday, 14th Jun 2016John Potter talks about under 20s squad
Most of the focus has been on building the first team squad but John Potter says that the under 20s are also seeking to bolster their squad for next season. He told the website:-
"I think defensively we need a player or two. I am happy enough with the boys we have got in midfield but in pre season we hope to have a few boys in on trial, so we will see if we can get another player or two for the 20s."
Players with Fife Elite could also feature in the coming season. Potts continued:-
"I have been up watching the under 17s in the last few weeks. They are finishing now and have a break before the pre season games. I know the players through working with them last year and there are a few good ones who hopefully can come in. A couple of them got a taste of it last year as well so they know what it is about and can come in and try and win a contract for the following year."
As always there will be a mix of youth and experience with first players in need of games always being considered first.
"We can have a good strong under 20s. Last season we finished strongly but maybe not consistent enough; we were playing better in the last eight or nine games. The likes of Johnny Galloway, Robbie Crawford and Reece Duncan who have been in the squad for a year, need to hit the ground running. They need to kick on, they are not kids anymore. The slightly older ones - Evan Horne, Conner Duthie and James Thomas - need to show the manager that they are good enough to be in and around the first team.
"They all have their aims to go for and hopefully we will be a stronger team than we were last year."
The 20s will play Civil Service on 7th July ahead of taking part in a mini pre season four team tournament at Kelty Juniors ground on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July. There will be young squads for these fixtures and another two possible friendlies fitted in around the first team games.
