Rhys revs up for challenge of Championship
Monday, 30th May 2016Rhys McCabe claimed that he is looking forward to going out and "having a real go next season."
Speaking after putting pen to paper on a new year long contract, Rhys McCabe claimed that he is looking forward to going out and "having a real go next season."
"The new contract has been a process that has needed a bit of time for both parties to think and weigh up different options. The season starts again in a few weeks so I am glad that it is all done now and I can focus on a good pre season."
The 23 year old felt that he was disadvantaged last season coming in late. He made eighteen appearances but felt that he was always playing catch up. He added:-
"With the team doing so well it was always hard for me to get my chance to stake my place in the team when the team was winning every week.
"I would like to get a good pre season under my belt, kick on from there and hopefully be on the starting eleven all season."
Rhys feels that the Dunfermline players and supporters can look forward with confidence to next season in the Championship:-
"Last season we showed in a few cup games against SPL teams that we are more than capable of competing with them. Over the course of the season, playing at home in front of our good supporters, playing attractive, fast flowing football it will suit us.
"Hibs and Dundee United play the same sort of way so for us to play them will be better than playing against the defensive sides we faced a lot last year because we were expected to win.
"Will it suit us, we will just have to wait and see. We are definitely looking forward to the competition that we will have this year.
"We will focus on ourselves and if we can take into next season with the way that we played over the course of last season, I do not think we will have a problem."
New faces for next season include Lee Ashcroft and Nat Wedderburn but as a relatively new boy at East End Park, Rhys knows from experience just how that will feel.
"I have said before that it is one of the best groups of boys that I have worked with. They will find it no problem coming in and mixing with the lads. The lads, the club and the staff - everyone makes them feel welcome. It is a real community based club so they will have no problem settling in."
