Manager's Update
Tuesday, 31st May 2016Allan Johnston secured the signing of Rhys McCabe on Tuesday and described him as a player with a lot of ability who maybe didn't have much fortune last season:-
"He didn't play as much what he would have liked to. It is difficult and you are always playing catch up when you miss pre season and you miss the games at the start of the season."
Rhys joined Dunfermline in September 2015 but the manager stressed that he was a player who had shown that he will be able to handle playing at Championship level. He predicted that with a good pre season behind him that Rhys will be a big player for Dunfermline in 2016-2017.
"It will probably suit him better because I imagine both sets of teams will be trying to play a bit more football. He is a footballer, he can pass the ball and open up defence's with his passing. Andy Geggan can play defensive midfield, Nat Wedderburn can play defensive midfield, Lewis Spence can do a bit of both so it was important we had somebody a wee bit different who can maybe play that pass and hopefully chip in with a few goals as well.
"It will be a massive season for Rhys, I have said that to him. He needs to really kick on, he is at a good age. He needs to go and produce it on the pitch week in week out and making a name for himself again to get himself back to the level he was at before."
The squad for the new season is taking shape but obviously strikers is a big part and the manager added:-
"We are still trying our best to get Faiss, I have spoken to his agent numerous times. Obviously they want to wait and see all their options before making any final decision. We are still on there anyway. We have been talking to a few other strikers and are quite close with them as well."
The manager confirmed that strikers were now his main priority:-
"They are the guys that make the difference. It is important that we get good strikers in. We are trying our best talking to players who can come and make a difference as well. Players who are proven goalscorers.
"When you look at how difficult it is going to be in the Championship, it is important to have mobility upfront. We are looking for a bit of pace and players who have played in the Championship or Premier League before."
AJ revealed he was still looking for three or four more players but money was naturally a major determining factor.
