The jumper jumped
Sunday, 29th May 2016The weather improved and Brian was able to jump from 10000 feet
On a rather cloudy Saturday morning, Bob Garmory and Donald Adamson of Dunfermline Athletic Heritage Trust met Major Del Hamilton (Commanding Officer, Army Personnel Recovery Centre, Edinburgh) and Private Brian Gilroy (3 Scots, Black Watch) at Fife Airport. The purpose was to raise money to take two members of the Army Personnel Recovery Centre to Belgium and France, free of charge, with the Heritage Trust who are attending a series of ceremonies to mark the service and sacrifice of Dunfermline men in the First World War.
Brian had offered, most kindly, to jump in the place of James Morell who was unwell, and this was particularly appropriate as Brian is coming with the Heritage Trust to the Somme on 1 July. Brian has come through the Recovery Centre process.
Fortunately the weather improved and Brian was able to jump at 4.30pm from 10,000 feet, linked to an instructor. This was his first parachute jump, and he loved it.
Brian was presented with a bottle of Dunfermline Athletic champions champagne to mark his day, and will be keeping this for a special occasion.
