Thursday, 26th May 2016Former Killie captain re-united with Allan Johnston
Twenty two year old Lee Ashcroft has signed a two year deal with Dunfermline, a move that re-unites him with the manager who gave him his first team debut at Kilmarnock. In his first interview to the club's YouTube channel he said:-
“I was at Killie for six years, but Allan Johnston was the first man to really give me my chance in the first team, I will always be appreciative of that.
“When he approached me about Dunfermline it felt like the right move. I’m delighted to have got my future sorted so quickly and I’m ready to go.
“From a personal point of view I want to improve every year and prove some people wrong,” he continued. “As a club, Dunfermline are massive, so we need to be looking to win as many games as we can and push for that playoff position."
Lee Ashcroft is described as a powerful central defender who came up through the youth system at Kilmarnock. A week after making his first team debut as a sub versus Dundee on 11th May 2013, Lee made his first team debut start in the penultimate SPL match of the 2012/13 season against Hibernian, scoring the Killie goal past Sean Murdoch in a 3-1 defeat.
The 19 year old then signed a new three year contract and went on to captain the Rugby Park side for the first time while only 21 on 4th April 2015 in a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell. Lee made 25, 22 and 20 appearances for Killie over the last three seasons.
Although Lee started the play off final against Falkirk that ended 4-0, he was one of six players released by Kilmarnock at the end of the 2015-2016 season.
