Retro Games Day
An afternoon of retro football games, sponsored by The Co-op Funeralcare, was held on Sunday in the Purvis Suite at EEP, allowing fans to relive their childhood playing such games as Subbuteo, Blow Football, Striker, Bar Football and many more.
The event was organised by Dunfermline Athletic Heritage Trust, and a healthy crowd of young and old was treated to a Subbuteo Master Class from Scotland World Cup player Eric Spreng, before being let loose on the different games. A fantastic buffet (with half-time oranges, of course) was supplied free of charge by Marvyn Stewart.
There was a Subbuteo League competition for the Steve Carty Memorial Trophy (generously donated by SlateShack) and fittingly this was won by Carty’s Crusaders, who successfully beat off challenges from The Barry Boys, ThePars Club, Wee Legends (Male Section), Wee Legends (Ladies Section) and San Starko – proudly wearing their Raith Rovers shirts!
Pars legends Roy Barry and Ian Westwater presented the awards.
Sufficient money was raised to pay for all the games (so there might even be a replay) and the surplus will go towards the Trust’s costs of taking two soldiers from the Army Personnel Recovery Unit to Contalmaison in France, for the centenary of the start of the Battle of the Somme on 1 July.
