Dunfermline Athletic

Captain ties the knot

Thursday, 28th Apr 2016

"Once I get fit I feel that I can play a big part for the club in the Championship."

Callum Fordyce has signed a three month contract with the club and now that has been agreed, he can look forward to his next contract - his wedding day on 27th May. He told the website:-

"My fiancé Zoe has put up with a lot of my rubbish and been positive for me. It has been as tough for her as it had been for me, but once the wedding day is over then we will focus on the football."

That contract will be for much longer than that offered by the football club but he totally understands the difference.

The club captain only started running on Tuesday of this week with a gentle approach:-

"There is no rush to be in peak condition in June as much as I would like to be. I don't want to rush it and do myself damage or aggravate the injury.

"I just have to work with physio Kenny Murray over the summer, I have a programme but I am confident that I will be able to do it no problem.

"After the second operation it was like night and day by how my ankle was feeling and how it was looking. It has progressed better and better each day. It is getting stronger, I am doing more balancing work, I am back running and will be gradually increasing the intensity of that over the coming weeks.

"I have a rehab programme to do that I will stick to right throughout the summer so that come June I am ready to go."

Short though it may be, Callum claimed to be delighted to get the contract offer. He continued:-

"The club have done tremendous things for me throughout the year along with the coaching staff and especially Kenny. I owe a lot to him. He has kept me going mentally and physically.

"I am delighted; it is a massive club and the club is going in the right direction. Hopefully the Championship is just another stepping stone back to where the club should be.

"I spoke to the gaffer and I knew myself that I had to get my fitness up to scratch. Nine times out of ten that is what clubs do. Injuries happen in football; I felt I was doing well at the start of the season and the rewards were happening on the park for myself and for the team.

"I am delighted to re-sign and hopefully I can kick on again and there are better things to come.

"The fans have been great with me. When I was walking round the park at the Brechin game here, I got a great reception. I really appreciate the support that they have given me so hopefully at the start of next season I can re-pay them by being back on the park and doing the business."

When Callum joined Dunfermline from Livingston in June last year the target was to win the league. He started the season playing one of the best ever he said:-

"I just felt that I was going to get better throughout the season. Obviously the injury happened and you just have to bounce back from it. For the first couple of weeks I was in a dark place, then you get through it. Then I got another blow in December when I was told that I would need another operation and that was another dark place for another month.

"Once I got that second operation it came together that everything is going to be alright this time. I have had good people round about me and Kenny has kept me positive. My family have remained positive too saying that I will be able to bounce back from it. I am 100% confident that I will be able to do that."

The 24 year old made over 100 appearances for Livingston and all but three were while in the Championship.

"I was at Livingston for six years except when I went to Clyde for six games on loan. I feel that I can play at that level. I have been there and I have done it for a lot of games. Once I get fit I feel that I can play a big part for the club in the Championship."
