Andy Geggan agrees new contract
Tuesday, 26th Apr 2016"I can't wait for the Championship season and intend to get myself as fit as possible to come back after the summer."
It took Andy Geggan a little time to agree a new contract but on Tuesday afternoon he was delighted to sign up for another season with an option on a further year with conditions.
He told the club website:-
"I had an option down south at Fleetwood Town but the gaffer was obviously keen on me and he has done well this year. After some thought I have signed."
The 28 year old has made 38 appearances this season and scored six goals. He stepped up to captain the team for most of the season following injury to Callum Fordyce in mid September. He was a member of Dumbarton's Division Three championship winning team in 2008-2009 but he claims that being a champion with Dunfermline was a fantastic experience:-
"Being captain for the majority of the season was the best thing. I just hope that we can keep the majority of the squad for next season, I'm sure the gaffer will as well.
"I can't wait for the Championship season and intend to get myself as fit as possible to come back after the summer."
Manager Allan Johnston described Andy as one of his "big players" this season. He commented:-
"He has been a massive player for us both on and off the park. He is a big character in the dressing room and he has played really well in the holding role. He has scored a few goals as well so he is an important player to get signed up. He has been one of the key players this season and I am delighted that he will be here next.
"I am sure that he will do well. He is vitally important to us and you could see the difference he made when he came on last Saturday. He has strength and determination to win."
Andy Geggan was signed from Ayr United for the start of the 2012-13 season. The midfielder was deployed at right back initially due to lack of cover at full back but when he was able to play in midfield made a big impression. Testimony to his worth, Jim Jefferies gave him 34 starts in his first season and only missed out when injured or suspended.
Andy played for Livingston as a youth player before joining Dumbarton in 2006. He played there for five seasons making 164 appearances in all competitions scoring 9 goals. He lifted a winner's medal with Dumbarton as they won the Third Division in 2009. The midfielder joined Ayr United in June 2011 and went on to make 43 starts for the Somerset Park side, scoring six times.
