Preview Airdrieonians
Saturday, 23rd Apr 2016The final away fixture of the season takes Dunfermline Athletic to the Excelsior Stadium to face Airdrieonians.
The Lanarkshire team sit sixth in League One needing two wins and a disastrous Stranraer slump to make the final play off place. Five points behind Stranraer, Airdrieonians need maximum points from this and their final match at Ayr to have any chance.
Airdrieonians have become a bit of a bogey team for the Fifers who have won only four in the last fourteen meetings. In the last four seasons, Airdrieonians have not lost to Dunfermline in the eight games played after Christmas.

This Season
At the end of September Airdrieonians became only the second team to take points away from East End Park. Marc McAusland made his Dunfermline debut but the visitors took the lead after David Cox picked out George Hunter who slotted home in 18th minute. Michael Moffat equalised with just over 15 minutes remaining and although chances fell for Mickaël Antoine-Curier and Moffat the Pars had to settle for a point.
In mid November the Pars won 2-0 at the Excelsior Stadium with goals from Michael Moffat and Shaun Byrne. Then on a Friday night at the end of January live on television the Pars suffered just their second home defeat of the season due to a Jamie Bain goal on the half hour.
Recent Form
It is seven home games back since Airdrieonians last won at home - a 2-0 win over Cowdenbeath. In fact the Diamonds have only twice at home since the first Saturday in September. Dunfermline's defeat at Stranraer last Saturday was just their second away league defeat of the season.
