Ryan feared unemployment

After serious injury Ryan Williamson worried that he could be out of a job

Ryan Williamson was buzzing after signing a two year extension to his contract on Thursday 7th April. The 20 year old defender was pleased with the outcome at the end of what has been a really difficult season for him because of a double leg break sustained in August. He told the website:-

"I have only played five competitive games, the club has been brilliant with me from the moment I got injured. When I did it I was a wee bit worried because I was going to be out of contract. I was frightened and if I did not play again this season I thought I could be unemployed.

"I have worked hard to get myself back fit and the manager and the Board has re-assured me that it is going to be alright. Obviously once the manager told me that I was getting offered a new deal I was just so relieved. I couldn't wait to get signed up. Now I can't wait for next season."

After being taken there from Forfar where he sustained the injury to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee Ryan was told that his season was over. Now he is back playing in the Under 20s and feeling strong after seven appearances at that level.

"Recently I have felt a lot sharper in training and in 20s games I feel that I have got more and more confident. I have played five or six 90 minutes now, I am stronger and fitter and now waiting for my chance. I will try my best to catch the manager's eye and hope to get a chance soon."

Last season a dislocated knee cap severely shortened Ryan's season and he discovered then that after a long lay off and no training it takes longer than he would have liked to get back to full match fitness.

"With a broken leg there is a lot of sitting around and your fitness levels do decrease, the same with your match sharpness but now that I am back and feeling better hopefully get back to first team football soon.

"Next season is going to be a brilliant league. Everyone knows over the last three years that we do not belong in this league, even though this is the first of us getting promoted. Now that we have the league wrapped up we can't wait.

"There will be a lot of big games. Depending on who gets promoted, the Fife Derby could be back, we could have games against Hibs and Falkirk. These are the games you want to have with big crowds.

"I need to impress between now and the end of the season and in pre season so that at the start of the season I will be raring to go again."
