Manager Post Albion Rovers

Saturday, 2nd Apr 2016

Allan Johnston felt pleased that his team came out on top in the visit to Albion Rovers:-

"It wasn't a classic game by any means. I thought we totally dominated the first half but to be fair in the second half they came back into it and had a couple of chances from setpieces. They are very good at that, but it is a very difficult place to come especially with the pitch.

"You can see how difficult the conditions were but that wee bit of quality that we have made all the difference. Joe Cardle with a great bit of skill put a great cross in and Faiss is always in the right place at the right time."

Joe Cardle was only introduced in 74 minutes but made a big impact coming off the bench and contributing the cross for the goal as well as coming close when hitting the left post. The manager continued:-

"They are good players and Ryan Wallace was unlucky as well with a couple of efforts - he hit the post as well. Overall we deserved the win but it wasn't a classic game. We can play a lot better than that. It was important that we picked up the points.

"The pitch was not great, obviously they try their best but the pitch is not great for good football. It is a leveller to be honest but the boys coped with it. It is important even though we have won the league, that we keep on winning, keep on getting results and keeping that momentum going. I am just delighted to win."

The win demonstrated that there was no hangover from the previous Saturday's title celebrations:-

"Especially when you have a big crowd, we cannot afford to lose games or points. We have a massive following that come week in week out that pay a lot of money to come and watch us, so it is important that we get results for them and important that we keep the standards up. Hopefully over the next few weeks we can start getting the boys tied up."

The winning goal takes Faissal El Bakhtaoui's tally for the season to 30 and the manager agreed it would consequently be hard to keep him at East End Park:-

"It is going to be really difficult, obviously the club is trying its best but that is all we can do. I am sure that there will be loads of clubs looking at him, but it won't be for the want of trying because we will give it our best shot."

Commenting on further press speculation about interest in Shaun Byrne (above) and PJ Crossan the manager closed:-

"It is going to happen; we have said that all along that it is going to be a really hard job over the summer when you have the whole team out of contract. It is very unusual that you see that at a club but I am going to have my work cut out."
