Conner Duthie signs
Wednesday, 23rd Mar 2016Nineteen year old midfielder joins Dunfermline
John Potter knew him from playing against Dunfermline and he always did well. Potts commented:-
"You keep an eye on guys and when he became available we got him in straight away and he impressed in training. He has a great attitude and played three games as a trialist for us and scored in a couple of them and looked a threat.
"I think there is more to come from him, he showed that against Hamilton last night, he was a threat. Initially it was to be for the U20s but why not go and push for the first team, I think he has the ability. He is the type of player that the manager likes, someone that can make a difference in the final third and hopefully he is a good addition to the U20s.
"I think he can play anywhere in the forward area, but he’s played wide left but is comfortable on both sides, probably something like David Hopkirk. He can play up top but can play either wing but he is a threat in the final third. He just needs to knuckle down, work hard and hopefully try and get an opportunity.”
Conner Duthie told the website:-
“I was released by Hibs by mutual consent. I had been at Hibs for 2 and a half years and prior to that I was with Hearts. I was there for about 8 years, I was 8 or 9 when I went to Hearts. Both clubs were really good, it was a great atmosphere at both.
“After I left Hibs I was training with Berwick Rangers first team thanks to John Coughlan but I was recommended to Dunfermline by Bill Hendry from Hibs (now Operations Manager with Fife Elite). John Potter gave me a call and asked me to come in. They have obviously liked what they saw and I’ve signed till the end of the season. As soon as I came in the boys were really great with me. I get a lift in from Cammy Gill but they have all been really good to me.
Having played three trial games and scored a couple of goals Conner has fitted in well with the 20s squad.
“I think I will have a far better chance with Dunfermline. Hopefully I can kick on and impress and get an extension to my contract for next season. Since I have come in everything has impressed me, the Gaffer, Potts and all the players. It’s a great atmosphere in the changing room, both the first team and the 20s – they are a great bunch of lads."
