Paton praises another Pars performance
Monday, 7th Mar 2016"The boys are saying that I seem to score the harder ones and miss the easier ones. A goal is a goal; I am happy with that one.
Dunfermline's second goal in Saturday's 5-0 win over Stenhousemuir was Michael Paton's third goal for the club. The 31st minute finish from a free kick gave keeper Colin McCabe little chance of stoping it. Michael told the media:-
"It was another great home performance, I think we carried on from the performance of last week. We have been doing it all season - quick counterattacks are getting us goals and it was good to get a goal myself."
After Jason Talbot had had a crack from a free kick in a similar position just a few minutes earlier, Michael scored direct from 23 yards:-
"We have been chopping and changing free kick takers through the season for somebody to get a goal. Luckily enough when I stood up it went in. It was a good finish. I think I scored a similar one last season for Queen of the South. I am confident from these sort of areas and confident that I will hit the target. Luckily that one went into the top corner.
"The boys are saying that I seem to score the harder ones and miss the easier ones. A goal is a goal; I am happy with that one. But overall it is a great three points, another five goals for the team and another three points towards winning the league."
The 26 year old who signed for Dunfermline in June last year said that free kicks are practiced on in training.
"We stay back and work on it, we work on it fifteen minutes before the game starts as well. As long as you hit the target it has a chance of going in."
Michael reiterated the players pledge to take it just one game at a time despite the Pars closing in on the League One title even faster after Saturday's results.
"We are focussing on one game at a time. That is another three points on the board and we look forward to Tuesday to get another three.
"It doesn't really matter how we are winning. We are getting three points. Saturday was a really good performance from back to front. Sean Murdoch got man of the match so that just shows you what everybody is putting in. That is why we are top of the table."
