Williamson ends wait to train

Friday, 12th Feb 2016

"I need to make sure that I am 100% right and confident before I go into a game."

With the great news that he is back in training Ryan Williamson gave separate interviews to both this website and the club's Facebook page. He told us:-

"It is brilliant to be back in training. That has been six months out, a long road to recovery but now that I am back involved it just feels so good to be back in about the boys and playing games in training. It is not until you are actually away from it that you realise how much you miss it.

"The next step is hopefully getting a game in the 20s over the coming weeks. In the last couple of weeks I have been doing a lot of running to build my fitness back up, changing direction to get back the confidence in my leg.

"I have been training with Potts and the young boys but on Monday since everyone was training together I got to join in the games. It felt great to be back, I definitely had the biggest smile when I found out I was going to be training."

Ryan has no idea when he might get back into competitive action but is content to see how the first couple of weeks training goes.

"It is completely different going into playing a game from training. I need to make sure that I am 100% right and confident before I go into a game.

"With the first team doing so well I am not expecting to go from training, playing in the 20s to starting from for the first team. I am going to need a good few games and game time to get my fitness back and back to where I was before I got injured. I will give it all for the 20s and hopefully get a chance in the first team again before the end of the season."

The 19 year old defender had been feeling super fit after coming through pre season training, when he incurred his double leg break injury in the Petrofac Training cup tie at Forfar in August. He feels that he still has quite a bit to go before he gets back to the same fitness level.

"With having four months or so without doing any running, no matter how well you look after yourself it is hard to get back to that level. I will do extra work after training to make sure my fitness level is back. Once I get a game or two it shouldn't be too long until I get back to that level."

Having missed three months of last season after dislocating his knee in the league match against Stirling Albion in November 2014 Ryan feels that it has become a bit of a routine doing two pre season per year.

"I cannot wait to get through a season without an injury. I have been unlucky, that is two serious injuries before I am even twenty. It is really bad luck but I am hoping that is my bad luck out of the way and I can just concentrate on playing."
