Raging to miss hattrick opportunity

Andy Geggan scored twice on Saturday but feels that he could have claimed his first ever hattrick.

Andy Geggan put in yet another exemplary performance against Stenhousemuir. The Pars captain covered every inch of the artificial Ochilview Park, his energy never relented and his two goals sealed what turned out to be a very comfortable three points. He told the media:-

"It was very important to get the result on Saturday, it was our aim last week but it never happened. After the defeat to Airdrie we had to win this game and I thought the boys did well to get the win we needed."

Andy's two goals took his season total to six but he conceded that he could have had a few more.

"I had one from the edge of the box. I just smashed it instead of taking a touch, I am raging a bit that I never got the hattrick."

Stenhousemuir's young debutante goalkeeper Colin McCabe pulled off some fantastic saves to deny a Geggan hattrick. He recalled:-

"There was the chance from a free kick. Joe Cardle was going to hit it then I just said to him just leave it 'I am smashing this'. It was going into the top corner I do not know how he kept it out."

The first Geggan goal came seven minutes into the second half from a short taken corner that was a result of McCabe's fine save from Geggs' free kick. The 29 year old who last scored at Ayr at the end of November described his headed goal:-

"I just saw the ball coming over and just moved to score one of my usual kinds of goals. Second one I was a wee bit surprised that Faiss actually passed the ball. He gave me it and I tucked it away with a good finish.

"I like coming to Stenhousemuir, I was keeping that one quiet. It is a nice pitch. The main objective was to get the three points."

Those points increase the Pars lead at the top of League One to eight points. "Peterhead are obviously catching up but we have a game in hand. It is in our favour. "

Given the situation with Ayr United now ten points behind Dunfermline and the memory of the last result when Ayr came to East End Park, little motivation will require to be instilled into the Dunfermline team for that one, Andy closed:-

"I remember the last game when we played them at home. That will be in the back of our heads and we will kick on."
