Talbot looking for zippy return to Stenny

Saturday, 6th Feb 2016

"We have not scored in three games but one team is due a thumping so hopefully we can play good football on Saturday."

Jason Talbot is looking forward to Saturday's league match at Ochilview Park and especially the artificial surface that appears to suit Dunfermline this season. He told the media:-

"In the first game there this season I thought we dominated from the moment we kicked off. We got some good goals and continued that all the way through the ninety minutes. The second game was a little different. They had a game plan like most teams do at the moment when coming to Dunfermline but we won 1-0 when Rooney scored the winner."

Jason who has been ever present in the Pars eleven except for one match against Airdrieoinians in September, since making his debut on 22nd August at Peterhead, was mindful of the last league game where Airdrieonians ended the Pars good league run, he continued:-

"We were disappointed especially since we dominated for the majority of the game with possession and passing. We created chances but did not take them. We need to get back to what we have been doing at the start of the season and start opening teams up again. I was signed to be a defender and happy doing my job but if I can contribute going forward then so be it.

"We had the weekend off to regroup, gather our thoughts which was nice for the management team and the gaffer to allow us to have that breathing space. We came in on Monday, Monday was fantastic, Tuesday was the same albeit there was a bit of a storm out there. It was lively and there was a great atmosphere, Thursday was the same so Saturday is looking good so far.

"It was our first defeat in fifteen games which is a massive achievement for any club at any level. We have not scored in three games but one team is due a thumping so hopefully we can play good football on Saturday."

Stenhousemuir were hit by five goals the first time Dunfermline visited this season and that was on the back of a home defeat to Ayr United but Jason stressed:-

"We have won every game that we have played on an artificial surface this season, scored so many goals without conceding many. I think we are a better team on artificial surfaces but it is about what we do. We should not focus on other teams, we have to go out and do what we are good at and if we do then I am sure that there will be plenty of goals and we will get the right result."

What suits the Pars style best to artificial surfaces?

"A lot of them are zippy and lively. It lets us play a bit more. Every time we go to Forfar we end up scoring three or four goals. Overall the style of play suits that type of pitch. We are not a team that lumps balls up the field, we want to be playing football."

The 30 year old Pars defender is hoping that with the other two title rivals Ayr United and Peterhead playing each other that Dunfermline can extend their lead at the top of League One:-

"We need to keep the momentum going as we approach the fourth round of games."
