Former Hearts and Dundee United youth signs for the Pars

Dunfermline Athletic have today signed Evan Horne. The 17 year old who hails from Renfrew has spent the last year and a half at Dundee United but prior to that was at Hearts for three years and initially when just ten years of age at Celtic. Speaking exclusively to this website Evan said:-

"Dundee United was my first professional contract but I wasn't enjoying staying up there and left through mutual consent. This allows me to travel through every day and I can stay at home."

The central midfielder's move to Dunfermline came about as a result of good word from the Pars back up goalkeeper:-

"I know David Hutton and he spoke to the manager. Obviously my agent was involved as well and I managed to come and train for a week or two. That gave me the opportunity to sign."

It was mid December when Evan joined in the training with Dunfermline and featured in the under 20s for the first time last Monday against St Mirren. Evan is delighted to be given the chance at Dunfermline:-

"It is a professional set up here, it is just as good as the bigger clubs that I have come from. The training is good, high tempo and everything is good standard. I have enjoyed everything so far."

Evan had found his new team mates welcoming and like most of them his contract is only until the end of this season.

"Everything will depend upon whether or not we get promotion. I have played against PJ and Cammy McClair but apart from them David is really the only player I know."

So what can Pars fans expect of the new signing?

"I am more of a defensive midfielder used to breaking play up. I think the club likes players who go forward so I am just looking to adapt to that and become a more attacking player.

"I hope to make my mark in the under 20s - well and hopefully impress Potts then catch the eye of Sandy (Clark) and the gaffer. Hopefully I can get a shot on the first team to show the club what I can do. I would like to break into that first team."

That might not be immediate but Evan has enjoyed being coached by John Potter:-

"He has been different class so far, he is a great guy and a great coach as well. He shows me what I need to work on, what I do good. He is good for my confidence and I am looking forward to working with him more. He had a personal touch with the boys, speaks it how it is which you don't get from a lot of managers and coaches."

John Potter gave his opinion on the new signing:-

"He looks a good player, we obviously knew about him when he was playing at Dundee United. He left there because he wasn't getting the game time that he was looking for.

"He has impressed everybody in training and joined in with the first team. He played a 20s game for us. It wasn't a great game but we saw enough to think that he can progress and do well. I think he will score goals, he is quite creative and we will get him into our way of thinking and hopefully he can be a good player and a good signing for the club."
