Future Pars Strips?

Sunday, 13th Dec 2015

Working together to further develop the club’s links with the West Fife community

As part of the Canmore Primary School celebrations of their 40th anniversary this year, P2 and P3 pupils are doing a project on changes in fashion over this period. Teacher Maureen Shearer asked Dunfermline Athletic Heritage Trust for information about historical Pars strips, so Trustee (and ex-Pars stalwart) Bonar Mercer visited along with Wullie Oliphant of DAFC’s Schools’ Engagement Team.

Wullie explained how the strip had changed over the last 40 years and Bonar was asked some searching questions about his times with the Pars. The children loved having their photos taken in a selection of old Pars tops (even if they were a bit on the large side!) that had been supplied by Marvyn Stewart from the DASC Shop.

The pupils then designed their very own Pars strips of the future, and Bonar was given the difficult task of judging them. Last week, Wullie and Bonar went to the school along with Craig Brown and John Simpson of the Heritage Trust, to present prizes to the winners:

P2: James Millar, Aimee MacDonald & Sofia Ross
P2/3: Cameron Hands, Rachel McKee, & Zak Cummings
P3: Brooke Walker, Ross Millar & Nathan Tait

Ross McArthur, DAFC Managing Director, said:_

“This is an excellent example of how different parts of the Pars Family are working together to further develop the club’s links with the West Fife community, and to encourage the Pars fans of the future.”
