The Pars Supporters’ Trust investigate the Mystery of the Missing Mascot

When playwright, author and Pars fan Mike Gibb contacted the Pars Supporters’ Trust with his fund raising idea, it was certainly not one the PST had ever received in the past.

Aberdeen based Mike was proposing to write a children’s book starring none other than Scotland’s no.1 mascot Sammy the Tammy. ‘Where’s Sammy’ is Mike’s seventh book and is aimed at a target audience of children aged 5 to 95! He was inspired to write the book after a recent visit to East End Park for the game against Albion Rovers.

Mike explained “I ended up sitting in the family section of the Norrie Stand next to a family with two young children, one of whom was a 4 or 5 year old girl who spent most of the time watching the Pars mascot and shouting “Sammy”.

"I got thinking that the kids might like a book about their hero so I approached the PST, received the green light and got to work. The book has been brilliantly illustrated by David Stout of Sketchpad and “Where’s Sammy? The Mystery of the Missing Mascot” was born”.

Drew Main, Vice-Chair of the PST added “We’re always looking for new fund raising initiatives and Mike’s proposal certainly fell into that category. We’re absolutely delighted with the book and hope all young Pars fans (and maybe some not so young) will enjoy it too. The PST is also grateful for the support it has received locally from Barrhead Travel, King Malcolm Hotel and the Kingsgate Centre who all helped to bring the book to fruition”.

The book will be on sale at East End Park at the late night shopping event on Thursday 3rd December between 5pm and 9pm and can be purchased from a one-off stall in the Kingsgate Centre on Sunday 6th December when Pars players and Sammy the Tammy himself will be on hand to sign your copy. It can also be purchased from the PST table in the foyer outside the club shop at all home games and is available via eBay.

Proceeds from the book, priced at £4.99 will go to the PST (and ultimately DAFC) with a donation from each book sold going to Mike’s animal welfare charity ‘Friends of Bianca’.
