Brandon Luke - the interview

Saturday, 5th Dec 2015

"My Dad and big brother get called Spook. I think it's rhyming slang for Luke, I was automatically called the same."

Brandon Luke, tell us how you came to be at Dunfermline?

"I joined at under nine level. I was spotted by Roger Arnott when I was playing in the Soccer Sevens at Pitreavie while playing for Lochgelly Albert Colts.

"I turned 16 on 15th March and I attended Lochgelly High School but left school and was allowed to come in and train for experience. On Fridays I train with Fife Elite and play with them on a Sunday."

How does full time football compare with school?

"I used to come in on day release on a Thursday but now I am in full time. It is good and better than school. I am learning and going to the gym is helping get me get bigger and stronger. My fitness has improved a lot because of the higher intensity compared to the under 17s."

You train and are included in the under 20s squad so had are you getting on with John Potter?

"He is a good coach, he helps me a lot and motivates you when you are struggling. Even when he comes to watch me play with Fife Elite he tells me the next day what I did well and on what I need to improve."

Who are your coaches at Fife Elite and as a central midfielder is there any Dunfermline player you pay particular attention to?

"Robert O'Neill and Robert Gowfrey. They help me a lot as well. In the team I look up to Shaun Byrne, Lewis Spence and Andy Geggan. I watch where they are on the park during games."

Sometimes you train with the first team squad, do they offer advice to you?

"They tell you what you should be doing, how to mark and this and that. I feel that I am welcomed although I am not signed full time."

And even if you not signed full time do you you get treated as if you were?

"Yes, I have boots to look after for Lewis Spence and physiology Kenny Murray to do."

What do you hope to achieve this season?

"Well I hope to play more games for the under 20s and win a full time contract for next season."

Lastly everybody calls you 'Spook' so where do that come from?

"I am always getting asked that but I really don't know. My Dad and big brother get called that. I think it's rhyming slang for Luke, I was automatically called the same."
