Johnny Galloway - the interview
Monday, 9th Nov 2015Seventeen year old youth player Johnny Galloway introduces himself.
Firstly tell us where are you from and a little about yourself?
"I am from Crossgates and I attended Beath High School. I play anywhere in midfield and prefer being in the centre."
Asked how long he had been at Dunfermline, he revealed that he is one of the longest on the Pars books
"I have been here eight years and came in at under 9. Robbie Crawford was here but he had a break to go to Rangers. I have a twin brother and he was at Dunfermline at the very start but got released and is now at Kelty Hearts."
You are a first year apprentice at Dunfermline, how did it feel when you were offered the apprenticeship?
"I am a Dunfermline fan so it was special for me. I just want to enjoy every moment of it. Training with first team players is much sharper and demands more of you. I am naturally fit but my fitness has improved since the start of the season. My heart rate record shows it. "
What does a normal week look like for Johnny Galloway?
"I get the bus in from Crossgates, clean my players' boots - Shaun Byrne and Lewis Martin's. Go out at 10.30 to train, lunch then gym. Me and James Thomas have chores to do, at the moment we are on the away changing room and laundry."
What are your targets for this season, your first as a professional footballer?
"Playing regularly for the under 20s, hopefully starting for them. By the end of the season I would hope to make the bench for the first team. PJ (Crossan) has done it already so that is a short term goal."
You started at Pittodrie at the end of last season in a match that Aberdeen celebrated winning the SPFL Development League, how did you enjoy that?
"It was good because I started. It was my first match in front of a big crowd. It was intimidating and I just couldn't believe it."
What do you do on Wednesday, your day off?
"I go into school and do one subject. It is part of the apprenticeship and it is tough because I am doing Higher Human Biology."
If you weren't a footballer what do you think you would do?
"I like sports so probably a PE teacher."
