Hopkirk hopeful for start
Sunday, 11th Oct 2015"The boys just need to get back together, work hard in training and see what the team is next week.
David Hopkirk was sent on for the second half against St Mirren on Saturday, he tried his best but 22 year old was not to be the super sub that was clearly required to recover from a 3-0 half time deficit:-
"I have not played a lot off games this season. I have been doing well in training but it is is hard to come into a game like that. Especially when the opposition are from a league above and they play with at a faster tempo. We are not playing at that tempo every week and we did not start the game right, we just need to go again next week."
Still seeking his first start of the season, David has watched a dozen of the Pars matches from the bench. He admitted that he couldn't quite believe what he was watching in a first half where the Pars fell 3-0 behind within 37 minutes:-
"We have been doing alright but I feel that for the last few weeks I don't think we have been starting well. I don't know if it has been the same team, we could have changed it today because of the way people have been training."
The half time substitution saw David replace Ryan Wallace and initially he did inject some welcome pace:-
"You have to try and get up to the tempo. We were already three goals down and the boys confidence was low. I don't think St Mirren get enough credit, I thought they played some good football at times. They were played faster and looked fitter.
"I don't think we looked fit today but that might be because we have played a lot of games. We have been playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday and there are a lot of injuries just now as well. We have not really been training so much, we have been trying to watch it and be careful."
While Dunfermline created few chances, St Mirren gave a lesson in how to take theirs. 'Hoppy' would love the opportunity to show the manager that he can produce form that can add goals in a Dunfermline team that up until Saturday had scored in every match bar one this season:-
"They were good finishes but most of the goals came from mistakes as well. So if we could have cut that out and be stronger at the back we might have had a better game. The boys just need to get back together, work hard in training and see what the team is next week. I have been working hard in training trying to impress but it is up to the manager."
