Scoring record for Super Joe
Monday, 5th Oct 2015"You just want to keep scoring week in week out. Hopefully they will keep coming."
Joe Cardle is delighted to have surpassed his best ever goals tally for a season and after only nine matches of the league season! He was also equally delighted to grab the opening goal on Saturday's match against Albion Rovers given the Pars poor first half performance:-
"It came to me, I was on the half turn and just took a touch. It was still on the half bounce when I hit it across the goalkeeper to go in off the post. It was relief more than anything because we were going into the break without a goal. We had put on a bit of pressure but weren't getting anywhere. I was just happy to get a goal before half time."
Yet again a visiting team set up with a strong defensive formation that Dunfermline found difficult to break down. The previous week against Airdrieonians demonstrated this admirably and losing the opening goal made getting a win all the more difficult. Joe felt Albion Rovers did what many more opponents will do when they come to East End Park.
"Happily enough we went and scored another couple of goals, three goals and three points so we are happy. With the size of this club there is always going to be pressure because we know the club should not be in this league. There is pressure on us every Saturday especially playing at East End Park. I think the boys just need to thrive on it."
Joe acknowledged that his team can play better football than was played on Saturday citing performances earlier on in the season. He was happy to be substituted as soon as the second goal went in since he had felt his thigh tightened up slightly. The good news is that he is certain that he will be fit and ready to go next weekend. "It is nothing major."
Eight goals for Dunfermline in the 2009/10 First Division season was Joe's best ever haul for a season so he was delighted to have beaten that:-
"It is a fantastic personal achievement and I now want to get up into double figures. Once you get two or three, you smell it and you just want more. Even in the second half I think that I could have done better from a couple of chances. You just want to keep scoring week in week out. Hopefully they will keep coming."
