Film footage from the golden era of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club in the 1960’s will be on show at the Carnegie Hall on 20th October

Film footage from the golden era of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club in the 1960’s will be on show at the Carnegie Hall on the 20th October for Dunfermline fans of all ages to enjoy, in an event organised by Dunfermline Athletic Heritage Trust and local charity ‘Yes-U-Are’.

This joint fundraising show will also feature an appearance on stage by a club legend in the shape of ’68 Cup winning Captain Roy Barry, as well as Bonar Mercer. Scottish Cup wins in 1961 and 1968 and victories against some of the top teams in England and abroad in European competitions combined to make this an incredibly exciting and successful time in the Club’s history.

Fans young and old will be able to sit back and watch their heroes win two Scottish Cups on the big screen. The story of Dunfermline Athletics glorious decade in the Sixties will unfold before them with Pars greats such as Harry Melrose, Charlie Dickson, George Peebles, Ron Mailer and many others seen and heard speaking on screen about what that time meant to them.

Can Dunfermline overturn a 4-0 away defeat to Spanish legends Valencia? Can the Pars overcome a one-nil defeat at Goodison Park to one of England’s most famous clubs, Everton, and triumph on aggregate in the white hot atmosphere of a packed East End Park?

Fans young and old will be able to watch the victorious teams of ’61 and ’68 return to heroes welcomes from the people of Dunfermline as the open-topped bus makes it way down the High Street. They will see and hear a triumphant Manager, the legendary Jock Stein, introduce his players to the waiting crowds from the balcony of the City Chambers.

Donald Adamson, of Dunfermline Athletic Heritage Trust, is looking forward to the event and reliving some of the key moments from the clubs rich history:

“Like many Pars supporters I have some wonderful memories from that period and it will be great to see excerpts from many of these games again in the excellent setting of the Carnegie Hall, and in the company of fellow fans. I know what it felt like as a fan and it will be fascinating to hear what the players thought about that great period in our history. The event also offers younger fans who weren’t even alive at that time to come along and find out about that great period in our history and watch it all unfold on the big screen.

Roy Barry is a regular nowadays at East End Park as a fan, but he fondly remembers his time at Dunfermline as a player and lifting the Scottish Cup in 1968, as well as being welcomed back to Dunfermline by the club just over a decade ago:

“I had some great times with Dunfermline and of course the highlight was winning the Cup. However there were lots of other special memories and it was a privilege to be part of such a wonderful side. The European nights also stand out for me, and of course I’ll never forget playing with such legends as Alex Ferguson with whom I roomed when we travelled abroad.

"I was living and working in London after my football career came to an end and was invited back by the Club as a guest at the Scottish Cup Final in 2004. It just felt right to be back where I’d had such a wonderful time and I’ve been here ever since and made Dunfermline my home. The fans make the club special and I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences on stage at the Carnegie Hall in what should be a memorable occasion”

Tickets for the ‘Golden Years’ are £10 and are on sale at the Carnegie Hall on 01383 602302 for a Matinee at 2.00pm and an evening performance at 7.30pm.
