Kenny’s Sponsorship Goal

Monday, 21st Sep 2015

The club was recently approached by one of our wonderful and supportive ex-pat fans with a unique sponsorship.

Kenny Mitchell has agreed to sponsor £5 for every goal scored by the Pars this season, and if the team manages to reach one particular secret milestone he will pay £1,000!

In previous seasons, Kenny has sponsored the Pars through the ex-pat season ticket initiative, and last year he sponsored the updates on dafc.net.

Kenny explains “I wanted to do something completely different this season, and I was racking my brains for ideas, but I hit upon the idea to sponsor the team for £5 a goal. Having seen that in the early 1970's we scored around 95 goals I decided to sponsor along those lines. My idea is to sponsor the team for £5 a goal. If the team manage to hit a certain figure, I have pledged to cough up £1000.

"My first Pars game was the 10-1 thrashing of Apoel Nicosia in Europe, and after that game there was no other team for me. There was never any thought of supporting the Rangers or Celtic, I am not sure my father would have allowed that anyway! I was brought up in Jennie Rennies Road in Dunfermline, after my father left the RAF. He had been based at Turnhouse and we lived in married quarters at RAF Pitreavie Castle initially. I left Dunfermline aged 16 to join the RAF myself and followed the Pars via the BBC World Service although the reception on the radio was pretty grim back in the 1970's and early 1980's.

"I'm sad to say that I missed those glory days under Jim Leishman with me serving in Cyprus, Canada, Sardinia and Germany I but still followed them via letters and phone calls. Indeed, I had the pleasure of attending the Jock Stein match a couple of weeks ago, and believe it or not John Watson's goal in the Legends game was the first time I had seen Super John score!

"These days I am fortunate to follow the Pars via Buffy's live updates and on dot net and via Facebook. The Pars are my team and if I can help in any way financially then I will. I also like to support Marvellous Marv's Emporium, often bidding on items that she puts up for auctions. I sincerely hope the lads bang in the goals this season, the more the merrier!”

Ross McArthur, Managing Director, DAFC commented

“When Kenny approached me I thought his idea was terrific, but with the early season form of the team I did check a couple of times that he was sure he wanted to proceed! I would like to thank Kenny for his generous offer and I know it is not the first time he has contributed to the club’s cause. Our club is so lucky that so many fantastic people, all around the world, are willing to help out the club with some fantastic initiatives”.
