Jordan Orru Interview

Saturday, 12th Sep 2015

18 years old Youth player Jordan Orru introduces himself:-

"I live in Rosyth and attended St Columbas High School. I like playing centre back but I prefer left back because I like going forward. I am probably stronger there too."

Jason Talbot was signed to play at left back this season, have you learned anything from him?

"Yes, Jason has helped me quite a bit. He played beside me in the pre season friendly against Kelty Hearts and even during the game he took me aside and gave me advice.

"Obviously John Potter has been good for me since I came in. He has looked after me and helped me more at centre back but at left back as well because he has played there before."

Jordan is a second year apprentice at the club and so it is an important season for him. What do you hope to achieve this season?

"I want to get stronger, quicker and improve my overall play. I have not had the best start to the season so I want to do well for the 20s, impress Potts and impress the gaffer and Sandy Clark."

The 20s have not played many games this season - four pre season friendlies (against Kelty, Armadale Thistle and closed doors v Hamilton and Raith Rovers and three Development League games at Kilmarnock, then at home to Hearts and then this week at St Mirren. How has that affected things?

"We do not have a big squad, there are only eight or nine of us. The midweek cup games have restricted the games. Obviously we have still been working hard in training; Potts is always on us for fitness but it is not the same as playing games.

"Potts has tried to give us one game every week and other than last week we have played a game every week but I just feel our performances need to be better. That includes the first years as well as the second year apprentices."

Whose boots do you look after?

"Jason Talbot, Joe Cardle and Ben Richards-Everton. It is quite easy; Jason is quite chilled and so are Ben and Joe really. As long as their boots are clean and as long as everything is done for them for a game they are happy. None of them really complain to me."

Do you have a job on your Wednesday off?

"Last season I went to school and this season I help my dad out because he does a wee bit of everything. I do painting and things like that just to earn a little more money. It is good to have a self employed dad."

Who has come up the age groups with you?

"Gavin McMillan last year, wee Cammy Gill has always been there but in the age group below me. James Thomas and PJ Crossan came in about fifteens."

What do you do if you are not at football or work?

"I play golf and try and play twice a week with my dad, my brother and my cousin. Other than that I am usually too tired to do anything else. I am a member at Canmore Golf Club but I wouldn't say I am any good at it, I just enjoy playing."

Where does your football talent come from?

"No one in my family has ever played for a professional team. This is my eighth season at Dunfermline and I started at Hillfield Swifts in Inverkeithing when I was six. When I was nine I went to Hearts and I was at Hearts from nine to eleven until I came to Dunfermline."
