Martin back on the right foot
Friday, 11th Sep 2015Lewis:- "When you are scoring goals you are going to enjoy playing in the team.
Lewis Martin is delighted to have been ever present in Allan Johnston's team this season especially since he sat out most of the pre season friendlies:-
"Pre season I did not really play much because I was injured and not well. Then when Jason Talbot got suspended for getting sent off against Hibs so I came in the next week against Arbroath. I have been in the team since."
When Ryan Williamson broke his leg Allan Johnston was forced into changing a team that he had not altered since the opening match of the season. The opportunity arose for Jason Talbot to return and that meant a switch for Lewis from left back to right back.
"It is fine because I am right footed. At left back it was a bit different for me but I have always played left sided centre back so I can use my left foot. It was easier moving to right side, it is basically the same position only on my better foot."
On the left side Lewis had been playing with Joe Cardle and David Hopkirk but now it is Michael Paton who is in front of him. He is comfortable with that as well:-
"Michael covers back for me, you could see that in the game against Stranraer."
Looking ahead to Saturday Lewis is aware that both clubs have very changed sides.
"Joe Cardle has brought a lot to the team and we are all playing with confidence. We just need to go out and play as we have been doing and hopefully continue the run."
The winning feeling this season is quite a contrast for the fans and Lewis confirmed that it is a great relief for the players as well:-
"When you see the scores. 6-1, 7-1 and 4-0 last Saturday, it is really good. When you are scoring goals you are going to enjoy playing in the team. The back four is new and we have been giving away goals but we got a clean sheet last Saturday and we want to continue that. We are definitely growing as a partnership. Sean Murdoch helps a lot from behind too.
"As long as I am playing I am happy wherever I am asked to play. I just need to keep doing well in training."
Lewis is aware that the defenders are the only players not really getting amongst the goal fest that the Pars have enjoyed this season. Jason Talbot is the only one of the back four to have found the net:-
"I will just need to go on a run. We have Big Ben and Callum Fordyce who are very good in the air, so I am sure that they will get a few goals."
