Charity Match this Sunday
Monday, 31st Aug 2015The Jock Stein 30th Anniversary Charity Match will take place at East End Park on Sunday, September 6, 2015 (KO 2pm).
The beneficiaries of the Dunfermline Legends v Celtic Legends encounter will be the charities of both clubs.
Please support this fantastic initiative and come along next Sunday to what will be a wonderful fun day at East End Park, and see your footballing heroes and club legends take on their Celtic counterparts.
We would like as many Pars fans to attend this one off event and to demonstrate to the football world and Mr Stein’s family, exactly what “Big Jock” means to our proud, community club.
PLEASE PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE OF THE MATCH, IF YOU CAN, TO AVOID ANY CONGESTION ON THE DAY. Our ticket office within the club shop is open this week, Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm, and Saturday 10am to 2pm.
An unbelievable team list for the Pars Legends has been assembled, along with a couple of special guests and supporter Paul Fitzgerald who won the recent auction to play in the match.
Another Pars fan, Nick Henderson was lucky enough to win the auction to be the Assistant Manager on the day. Congratulations to both Paul and Nick.
The Pars squad, will be managed by our ex player, David Moyes (who is currently managing Real Sociedad, after spells at Manchester United and Everton).
Our Team Captain will be Scott “Nipper” Thomson who was a stalwart for the club during the Jimmy Calderwood years.
Goalkeepers will be the very popular Marco Ruitenbeek, who is travelling over from Holland, along with the very reliable Derek Stillie.
In defence, the manager will have a number of options including fans favourites Scott Wilson and Jason Dair. Local hero, Andy Tod and current coach and player John Potter will provide a defensive rock, to allow Pars fans to welcome back from Lithuania one of our recent all-time greats, Andrius Skerla, who scored the opening goal at Hampden against Celtic in the 2004 Scottish Cup Final.
In midfield, the legendary Martin Hardie will return to East End Park, but can he score another wonder free kick? He will be joined by the best holding midfielder of the last decade, Gary Mason.
In addition, making a trip up from his current role at Fleetwood, is the talented Barry Nicholson who will add energy and poise to the engine room.
This leaves, the iconic figure of Istvan Kozma, who is returning from Hungary, to grace the hallowed turf once again and allow us to enjoy his skill and range of passing. Our special guest, Vinnie Jones, has kindly agreed to don the black and white stripes to support our good cause and he will there to sort out any nonsense on the pitch with his legendary banter!
If the manager wants to stretch the opposition, he will have a few options up his sleeve. Current Pars boss, Allan Johnston has agreed to take part and it will be fantastic for our supporters to see the talent and skill that our manager possessed as an international player. David Bingham, is a very talented local boy who represented our club and he will be joined by another recent legend, Stewart Petrie who scored THAT goal at Tannadice, just in case anyone has forgotten!
Up front, the talented options keep coming for the manager. Stevie Crawford who represented the club and his country with distinction, will be joined by two cult figures who epitomised everything that was good about our club in the Jim Leishman and Bert Paton eras, Ross Jack and Hamish French. Our final legend, John Watson, needs no introduction to Pars supporters as his goals and commitment to the club, made him a fans favourite.
Net proceeds from the match will be split equally between the Pars Foundation (charity number SC043970) and Celtic FC Foundation (a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, number SC024648).
