Talbot's striking performance

Monday, 31st Aug 2015

"I always like to be a striker, I was brought up as a defender but I like to score goals. Hopefully there will be a few more, I scored six for Livingston."

Jason Talbot scored his first ever Dunfermline goal in the 3-1 win over Stranraer and for the 29 year old left back it was his first since scoring the winner in the 1-0 win for Livingston over Cowdenbeath in March last year. He was naturally delighted to have opened his Dunfermline 'account'

"I don't score many so it was nice to get off the mark."

What everybody wanted to know was just how a left back gets into the right winger's position to score with a diving header, he explained:-

"On the counterattack from our corner. I was sitting just inside our box and kicked it to Faiss. I realised that he did not have much support so I went up. The ball went out to Joe Cardle and when he whipped it in the box, I just had the instinct. I always like to be a striker, I was brought up as a defender but I like to score goals. Hopefully there will be a few more, I scored six for Livingston."

Having missed out in the opening games due to a suspension incurred for his red card in the pre season friendly against Hibs, Jason found it hard to get a starting place in a Dunfermline side that just kept winning. The injury to Ryan Williamson at Forfar created an opening for Jason and he has started three times for the Pars in eight days.

"It is difficult to get into a winning team. The lads have been brilliant winning 4-1, 5-1, 6-1 and 7-1 so you know you have to bide your time. The unfortunate leg break to Ryan allowed somebody into the team and I am happy it has been me.

"You have to take your chances and if you don't then you are going to find yourself back out. I am trying to be as steady as I can and be professional every week.

"We carried on from where we left off on Tuesday. That was a great result given we played four games in the space of ten days or something like that. That is hard for any team, I know we had a slip up against Peterhead last week but we bounced back on Tuesday and carried out a good result on Saturday."

Jason claims that he is thoroughly enjoying being at Dunfermline saying:-

"It is a lovely place to be. The boys are magnificent and it's the best team spirit I have been around for a long long time. The boys are a good bunch, everyone gets on really well together. I don't see it as going down a division at all, I see it as going to a bigger club. I am looking forward to being successful."
