Saturday's opponents Stranraer knocked Dunfermline out of last season's William Hill Scottish Cup and in the league honours were even with two wins apiece. The sides have been firm rivals over the last two seasons, meeting one another twelve times. Dunfermline have won six, Stranraer five and only one, a Scottish Cup tie at Stair Park was drawn.
Dunfermline's best result against Stranraer was in Division Two in April 1958 when a Charlie Dickson hat trick helped the Pars to a 9-1 scoreline. Until December last year the Pars had won every home league game except the drawn match in November 1983 which was just five games into Jim Leishman's managerial career. The 1-0 win for Stranraer on 20th December 2014 was their first ever league success at East End Park.

With three league matches played Stranraer sit 8th in League One, having won one and lost two of their opening games. The Pars 100% record was blemished by the 2-1 defeat away to Peterhead on Saturday. Both sides were involved in midweek against top flight opposition. Dunfermline faced Paul Hartley's Dundee at East End Park and saw off a team two leagues above them in a tremendous League Cup tie. Stranraer's League Cup tie at Easter Road on Wednesday night resulted in 1-0 defeat but the only goal of the game was an own goal. In 54 minutes Scott Rumsby turned the ball into his own net while trying to clear a cross.

Former Pars defender Brian Reid is now the Stranraer manager and his signings have included last season's Pars Ryan Thomson and Andy Stirling. Steven Bell is still at Stranraer and he will lead the team out.
