Cardle's blow to Dundee
Wednesday, 26th Aug 2015"We are delighted, it was a special night all round at East End Park and hopefully there are going to be more this season."
"Obviously Dundee got the goal back early in the second half and we had to dig in there. There was a lot of grafting going on, they had a lot of the ball but it was a great team performance getting behind the ball and when we got ball we had to make things happen. Fortunately enough we got the goals later on in the game."
Joe agreed that it had been a tough match and one where he was right in the thick of things:-
"When I went to the ground at the second one I knew myself that it could have been a red. I didn't think it was a yellow the first time. I made a few tackles in the games but I don't think they were worthy of a yellow card at all. I think that is why the gaffer got irate as well.
"It was not like me to go to ground but you had put the foot in. In some games you are going to have to do that and obviously it was the result that we wanted so happy all round."
The 86th minute goal from Joe Cardle restored the Pars lead and he described it:-
"It was a great ball from Paton. It is not like me to get in the middle and in the box, it is a part of my game that I need to add and add goals to my game. I brought it down with my chest, I knew where the goals were and I just hit towards the goals. I don't know how it went in, it seemed to take a wee while to go in and the next minute I am on the floor and Ryan Wallace is jumping on top of me. I think he has done something to my shoulder but I will take it.
"It is another goal on my tally and it means so much to go through. This is why I signed for the club. Nights like this don't come round very often; you can see that with everyone's face after the game. It is a special night.
"The fans were incredible again and as I said after the last home game against Cowdenbeath, the fans were fantastic that day and it was the same again against Dundee. Having a full stand at both ends was incredible; Dundee always bring a big crowd as well.
"We are through to the next round and looking forward to the draw. Apart from Saturday it has been a great start to the season and we just have to push on in the league now."
The win over the team that finished sixth in Scottish football last season means everything claimed Joe.
"Players like myself have had a long summer, I didn't know where I was going to be. It has been tough in the last few months but nights like this mean so much for us. It is what you work hard every day on the training pitch for."
Super Joe, as the Pars fans sang to him after the second goal went in, felt that Faissal El Bakhtaoui was "unbelievable."
"He has done so well, I just hope that we can keep hold of him. If a boy is scoring two goals every game he has a chance of getting a move. For selfish reasons we want to keep him because we want to stay at the top of the league throughout the season. He is the sort of player that will score goals out of anything. Especially the first one out of nothing, it was a low ball and he just got his foot round it and put it in the bottom corner. His second one just wrapped it up. He took the boy on twice and put it in the back of the net. You cant ask for anymore than that."
