Different feel and different buzz for Geggs

Friday, 14th Aug 2015

Andy Geggan is pleased with the way he and the team has started the season.

Speaking exclusively to this website ahead of the opening home league match, Andy discussed his new role in the team:-

"It is a bit different but it is good getting on the ball and giving the ball to the strikers and let them do the work. It is a more controlled game instead of going forward erratically and trying to get a goal.

"We have Joe Cardle, Faiss and Ryan Wallace when he comes on, who can score goals. There is no need for me going forward, I sit at the back and take control from there. I played there a couple of times in friendlies and I think the manager liked the way I played it. Obviously he thinks it is the position for me."

Consolation for not being up the park so much is more involvement and time on the ball:-

"I can be receiving the ball from the keeper, Callum Fordyce or Big Ben Richards-Everton."

The system is clearly working after fifteen goals in the first three competitive games. Andy feels that sets the tone and sends warning messages to league title contenders:-

"It is still early but after fifteen goals in three games every player is confident. It is a big difference from last year where a few were confident but others weren't so confident. This year has a different feel about it and a different buzz."

Eighteen players left the club at the end of last season but Andy praised those who have come in:-

"Dicey and Big Ben are controlling things at the back, Joe Cardle can play a bit. Experience is there which is always better to have. Last year there was just me, Josh and a couple others. That was it so we are definitely benefiting from the experienced players."

Andy who wore the captain's armband in the second half last Saturday at Brechin did not miss out the manager as he identified things that were making a difference.

"We all know what we have to do and every Friday he goes through the team and tells us what we are doing. We will take it game by game but we have to keep up the standards that we have set."

The games are coming up thick and fast with five matches in the next 15 days. Andy feels that the manager will change the team to use all his squad, even though it is still small.

"Me and Shaun Byrne have been playing but look at Josh Falkingham and Lewis Spence on the bench. They are good players and they will get back in. He has a big enough squad to change it in the next four or five games. It keeps everybody on their toes."

Returning only two weeks after a 5-1 defeat at East End Park in the Scottish League Cup, Cowdenbeath will be "up for it" according to Andy:-

"We taught them a lesson in the first game, but we will be up for it as normal in every game. You want derbies, especially in the league because it makes it a bit more interesting, better for the fans as well."
