"I was absolutely delighted that we scored that many goals and in the manner in which we did. I think even if you look at the first half as well and the amount of chances that we created, we were a real threat going forward. I suppose the only thing that we can be disappointed with was switching off and losing a goal."
The goal against didn't matter given the free scoring team that has now scored nine goals in the opening two games. The manager put that down to the competition for starting places:-
"The players are doing great, Ryan Wallace came on and did really well himself. That just shows you the quality that we have got in the team.
"The only thing that I'd maybe say about today was that some of the tackles will need referees to be quite strong. You could have got some bad injuries there with some of the tackles that we're going in."
The Cowdenbeath goal so soon after Shaun Byrne had put the Pars two up was a set back but the manager would rather dwell on the positives from this League Cup tie:-
"I think even on our first half performance we could easily have scored three or four. Young Shaun Byrne did really well, he just picked up a wee knock - there are a couple of them struggling with knocks but hopefully they will be fit for next week."
Having been newly relegated from the Championship, Cowdenbeath are expected to be challenging for promotion so the Pars manager was pleased to have seen the Blue Brazil off so convincingly:-
"It was a Derby as well and we didn't want disappoint our fans who turned out today. The boys were disappointed with last year, so it is important that we get them onside, put on a good performance and play attractive football as well. Hopefully that is what we did today."
The manager watched from the stand the last time that Cowdenbeath had come to East End Park but he claimed that neither he nor the players who had been involved had dwelt on that.
"That was a long time ago. We just have to look at just now. Obviously we are not getting carried away but there are a lot of positives and we just have to make sure that we continue that standard week in week out."
With a subs bench that included the likes of Ryan Wallace, Josh Falkingham, David Hopkirk and Lewis Spence the manager stressed just how the competition for starting places can be used to advantage:-
"That hopefully drives everyone forward to play well and get results on the park."
