The 106 year old supporter
Tuesday, 4th Aug 2015Pars Fan Kenny McLachlan, who also works for the Cooperative, made time recently to visit a very special fellow Pars fan, and former Cooperative employee.
Mr James Crombie is 106 years old, and Kenny along with Roy Barry (DAFC Scottish Cup Winning Captain in 1968) went to visit him recently at The Jean Mackie Centre, Dunfermline. He took along the DAFC Heritage Trust Memory Box which contains many items from the clubs history.
Kenny remarked, “It was a pleasure to meet James, who spent his entire working life with the Co-operative, he was, and continues to be a lifelong Dunfermline Athletic fan. It was fantastic, he could recall games from the 1920’s, in particular a story from a game about a player called Bobby Skinner which I referenced in old Pars books as he chatted with Roy, his recollections were exactly as they were described in the book, it was absolutely amazing as this game was played over 90 years ago!”
DAFC are delighted that Mr Crombie will attend a Pars game in the near future where he will be the guest of honour. He will be treated to match day hospitality and watch the game from the comfort of one of our track side boxes. The Cooperative will supply a limo to collect him and his family and return him safely after the game.
Kenny continues “it was an absolute pleasure to meet Mr Crombie, watching him talk with Roy was superb, just like listening to two old pals having a chinwag about the old days.
"My father (who passed away last year aged 85 years) grew up in Dunfermline’s Pittencreiff Street, as did Mr Crombie, perhaps their paths would have crossed? As a Pars fan I was so proud to make this happen, it was an honour which made me very proud to be both a Pars fan and a Co-op employee”
