Closed doors friendly
Wednesday, 8th Jul 2015A closed doors match was played against Partick Thistle on Wednesday afternoon at Garscube Sports Centre.
There were no goals in the match and the Jags keeper probably had more to do than the Pars trialist, David Hutton. The Fifers formation was slightly different with the manager looking at options he might need to deploy during the season.
Allan Johnston felt that it was another good performance from his squad, he told the website that he was disappointed that they didn't score a couple of goals:-
"We had great chances; a one v one with the keeper on a couple of occasions and we could maybe have had a penalty near the end. The referee gave the penalty but the linesman overturned it.
"Their keeper had a couple of great saves as well, I think David Hutton made only one save during the whole match. There were a lot of positives against Partick Thistle who are a really good passing team. The boys did really well.
"It was a great fitness work out for us because at times, especially in the first half they worked us really hard - they passed the ball well but for the majority of the second half I thought we totally dominated them.
"The boys showed their fitness levels and the quality that they have got. They are really disappointed that they didn't win so that's the attitude you want - not happy drawing with a Premier League club.
"We probably had the better chances overall but when you have two one on ones with the goalie you have to make sure that you finish them off by being a little more clinical. Overall it was a really good team performance.
"It was only the second game for the majority of the boys there. You could see the quality that we have got and if you keep playing at the tempo we did today, pass the ball the way they did and create the chances they did then we will score a lot of goals this season.
"Ryan Williamson and Jason Talbot played the full ninety but you could see that we have a number of good options if you consider the boys we brought on. Lewis Martin has been struggling with his back and missed a bit of training over the last week, so it is good to have him back to get game time."
